Sue Manning

Sue Rowland Manning was born June 1, 1937 in Dekalb Co, TN.  Her parents, Berdie and Elmer Rowland, moved to Lebanon, TN when she was 12.  Sue had an older and younger brother and they grew up on a large farm along I-40 and her childhood was blessed.

After graduating from Lebanon High School, Sue married the love of her life, Herlin Manning, and they moved to Nashville.  Sue says she has always been a people person, and it did not take her long to get a job with First American National Bank on the corner of 4th and Union Streets.  When Herlin and she decided to move to Franklin County, she was the executive secretary for the Bank’s vice-president.

In 1968, Sue and Herlin had an opportunity to purchase the John Deere dealership in Franklin County.  The moved along with their three-year old daughter, Lisa and opened Manning Implement Company.  Together, they successfully operated the business selling John Deere equipment for 18 years.  They were a good match:  Herlin knew the equipment side of the business and Sue was good with people.

They sold the business in 1986 and Sue became a realtor, first working with Billy Rigsby and later with Sally Davis, Century 21 and Swafford’s Property Shop.  Herlin turned his attention to developing lake property and Sue to listing and selling property in Franklin Co. for 35 years.  She sold both commercial and residential property.  Her biggest sale was made while boating on Tims Ford Lake.

Sue says that as much as she enjoyed selling real estate, she also enjoyed selling Franklin County to people interested in moving to our community.  Although Sue says that Franklin County is an easy sell with its mountains, lakes and people, Sue used her people skills to convince many people that Franklin County is a great place to live.  She still enjoys promoting our community.

With retirement comes the opportunity to enjoy family and Sue is taking full advantage of it.  Her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Chuck Chamberlin have one child, Cami.  Both Chuck and Lisa are UT graduates and Lisa is a CPA and Chuck is employed in IT at Nissan headquarters in Franklin, TN.

When not traveling with her friends or playing bridge, Sue is happily busy and engaged by Cami.  Cami enjoys showing her TN Walking Horse, playing volleyball and will start High School next fall.  Sue enjoys her time with her granddaughter.

Sue says that after fifty years in Franklin County, she loves our County more than ever and wants everyone to know that Franklin County is a great place to raise a family or retire and enjoy our mountains and lakes.
