STREET DEPARTMENT

The Street Department is responsible for the maintenance of 72 miles of public roads and right of ways and city owned property and buildings. This includes roadway surfaces, sidewalks, drainage, mowing, signs, building maintenance, street and traffic lighting and construction of roadways and buildings. Answering and reviewing complaints from citizens and planning solutions. Conducts meetings with contractors, engineers, on various projects. Works closely with State and City Planners on issues within planning region. Review construction and drainage plans for subdivision and site development for compliance to state and local standards, specifications and the inspection of it. Work closely with City, County and State Agencies on various projects within the City limits to insure compliance with local and State laws and regulations.

WM RoutesSANITATION DEPARTMENT

The City of Winchester Sanitation Department is responsible for brush, leaves, Blue Bag Recycling Program and mowing city property. 

The City of Winchester will continue our partnership with Waste Management for the removal of residential household waste.  Each residence will receive a new cart beginning the week of August 10-13, 2020.  This service will continue to be on your Winchester Utility System statement at a rate of $24.28 per month.  Each household will receive one cart.  An additional cart can be purchased at a rate of $8.00 per month.  If your cart is lost or stolen, a replacement cart can be purchased for $70.00. Beginning August 31, 2020 routes will change slightly and carts not issued by Waste Management will not be serviced.

Friday – Blue

Unacceptable household wastes include the following items: 

     Hazardous/Medical Waste
     Dead Animals over 10 lbs.
     Soil/Dirt/Rock/Sand
     Paint
     Construction Material
     Carpet               

You may contact the Waste Management Call Center at 1-800-607-9509 with issues/concerns, or contact the City of Winchester at (931) 967-2532 to purchase carts.

NOTICE

The Public Works Department will no longer pickup loose grass and clippings on road side. This material MUST BE BAGGED. Please inform your lawn service of this change. The City will not be responsible for damage to lawns due to material left on road side not bagged.
