First laid out in 1968, the Winchester Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport owned and operated by the City of Winchester, Tennessee, conveniently situated within an hour of Huntsville, Chattanooga, and Nashville. Located adjacent to US Highway 64, the airfield is just minutes from several nearby cities, area industrial parks, Tims Ford Lake & recreation area, Interstate Highways 24 & 65, and many other attractions.
The airport also serves as an invaluable asset to many of the various companies and educational institutions located in the area. Not only do these entities employ several thousand local residents, but they provide services for millions more.
When originally constructed, the airport consisted of a 3,000 foot runway and a small taxiway with ramp area. Today the airport boasts a 5,000 foot long runway, a modern terminal building, an on-site AWOS-3 facility, and multiple approach procedures which allow aircraft to land more safely.
Because of its ideal location and various growth initiatives over the years, the airport has grown to become one of the premier ports of entry for Southern Tennessee
