George Fraley

George W. Fraley Jr. a native of Franklin County, he was born in the Owl Hollow Community on April 4, 1931 to the late George and Oshia Pearl Tipps Fraley Sr. George attended Central High School in Franklin County, where he played football. His first paying job was mixing mud for the Broadview School building. After high school, he attended Middle Tennessee State University, again playing football while pursuing his B.S. degree, graduating in 1955. Fraley attended Management Training at the University of Alabama.

George served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict 1951 - 1953. He began his professional career teaching for one year at West Junior High in Tullahoma. George later worked as an Insurance Adjustor for the General Adjustment Bureau, and as a Metallurgical Engineer at Arnold Engineering Development Center. During his employment at AEDC, he served for thirteen years as a Franklin County Commissioner 1969-1982, served as Franklin County Executive for one term (four years) 1990-1994, and also was a farmer. George served as a Tennessee State Representative for fourteen years, beginning in 1997.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed cattle farming and was committed to public service. George was very instrumental in the City of Winchester receiving the Courthouse Revitalization Grant and numerous Tennessee Department of Transportation grant for the revitalization of downtown Winchester.  He was a huge supporter of the City of Winchester.  A portion of highway adjacent to the roundabout on Highway 50 was named.

George was very active in his community, 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, Junior Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Past Commander-American Legion Post #44;Veterans of Foreign Wars;  American Society for Non-Destructive Testing; Franklin County Historical Society; Franklin County Livestock Association; Motlow State Community College; Board member- University of Tennessee Agriculture Extension Service; Board Member of Tennessee Vocational Training Center; Chairman of Local Elected Officials; Tennessee Farm Bureau.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by infant siblings, Hazel and Herman Fraley; and sister, Stella Ruch, Ernestine Mason, and Karene Wynne. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Newman Fraley; son, Beri Fraley; daughter, Beth Fraley Eavey; grandchildren, Anne Marie Fraley Rainey, Laura Beth Fraley Anderson, Rebecca Lee Fraley, Callie Elizabeth Eavey, Lindsey Leigh Eavey, and Megan Elizabeth Grenier; and a host of nieces and nephews.
