Bill Anderton

Bill Anderton

William Murrell (Bill) Anderton is known by most people in this area as the “Colonel” (auctioneers are called Colonel as a honorary designation).  Bill has deep roots on the downtown square in Winchester.  His father, Ben S. Anderton, was a former Franklin County Circuit Court Clerk and banker on the square.  His grandfather, Dr. Murrell William Anderton, was a dentist, with his office one door off the square.  Bill’s great-grandfather, Dr. Thomas B. Anderton, was a doctor, his office was a half-block off the Winchester square.  Bill’s company, Winton Auction and Realty, is on the corner of the courthouse square as you turn to go toward Cowan.

He has been at the same location since 1971 when he started working for Winton Auction and Realty.  Bill purchased the company in the early 1990’s from his mentor, 2nd generation owner Bob Winton.

Bill is known across Tennessee and surrounding states for his skills as an auctioneer and real estate broker.  The company’s motto is, “We Doze But Never Close”, and his white truck can be found parked just off the square every week day.
