| A Welcome From Our Mayor... |
|
Won't
you come along and drive on Dinah Shore Boulevard or the David Crockett
State Highway to a place we call home? Winchester, Tennessee.
More than just a town, Winchester is known for its friendliness and hospitality. We also boast of having the honor of being Dinah Shore's hometown and the main thoroughfare carries her name. For those of you who are strangers to Winchester, it is located about 90 minutes southeast of Nashville, 60 minutes west of Chattanooga, and 45 minutes northeast of Huntsville, Alabama. Incidentally, you won't be a stranger long, once you've visited out in the community. Settled in 1812, Winchester was named for General James Winchester, a veteran of the Revolutionary and Indian Wars. The city was incorporated in 1821 and is the county seat of Franklin County. Winchester is proud of its schools, its churches and its business and industrial community. Progress has become the key word as the City of Winchester looks to the future. Surrounded by majestic mountains, lakes and rolling farmlands, Winchester is blessed by natural beauty that is the envy of every visitor. Stop by for a handshake, a broad smile and a warm welcome to our city. We call Winchester home and want you to feel at home here, too. We're not out of the way! We are the way! Winchester
