Francis
Thomas Estill, son of Dr. Wallace W. and Eleanor Crabbe Estill, was born
March 29, 1823 in Winchester. In 1842 he graduated from Nashville University
and commenced the practice of law in 1845. He was a member of the State
Legislature from Franklin County in 1847 and Mayor of Winchester in 1858.
In addition he served as county surveyor and operated a tannery on Boiling
Fork Creek near his home on Sharp Springs Road. He married Catherine Heslip
Garner in 1846. They were the parents of fourteen children. He died at
his home October 22, 1878 and was buried in Winchester City Cemetery. |
